In 2015 and 2016, the Ministry of finance, the Ministry of housing and urban rural development and the Ministry of water resources carried out two batches of national sponge city construction pilot projects supported by the central government, and 30 pilot cities were selected through competitive evaluation. Beijing Urban sub center was selected as the second batch of pilot cities in 2016.
